Lil Wayne Surprises Jay-Z Audience Before Jail Sentencing

Yesterday after a courtroom fire, Lil Wayne once again received a reprieve from his imminent imprisonment for weapons charges. He previously managed to duck out of his original February 9th sentencing to undergo eight root canals, so apparently he’s luckier at dodging court dates than The Sopranos’ Uncle Junior. After Jay-Z tourmate Young Jeezy and rapper Nikki Minaj performed “Bedrock” in Weezy’s honor, the two introduced the soon-to-incarcerated Tha Carter rapper to an ecstatic crowd for a performance of “I’m Goin In” with backing by Lil Wayne’s protégé, Drake, that was by turns defiant and triumphant.

TMZ now reports that Lil Wayne’s court date has been moved to next Monday, March 8th, at which point he will be sentenced for attempted possession of a weapon in the second degree. He plead guilty last fall in a New York courtroom after the NYPD discovered a .40 caliber handgun in Wayne’s tour bus in July 2007.

He is expected to be present for the March 8th date, unless a hurricane, stubbed toe, flat tire, legal paperwork-eating-dog, malfunctioning GPS, alien invasion, wisdom-teeth removal and/ or a rain of frogs happens first.
