Coldplay Debuts New Song In South America
By Jeffrey Hyatt
Before you know it Coldplay will be back – smack dab in the center of the music universe with a new album and all the hype that comes with such an occasion.
The new album should be here sometime in 2010, but for now, fans who are catching the band on their current tour of South America are getting an early taste of what to expect from ‘new’ Coldplay; during the final few dates of the tour the band have been playing new songs, including something called “Don Quixote,” which the band played at River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aires.
Listen to the new song below!
Introducing the song, Chris Martin said it was a tribute to their South American fans (via gigwise).
“We felt like it would be good for us if we had a special song that celebrated how much we think of the Latin American audiences,” he said.
“We decided to write a song about the magic escape when the band receives when we come to Latin America – this is called ‘Don Quixote’.”
I won’t lie. I like the tune. Whether or not it makes it onto the next album remains to be seen. Coldplay are with EMI, don’t forget, and it hasn’t exactly been the record label’s finest year so far, so lord knows they are hoping for a massive return of Coldplay – not that they ever really went away.
Coldplay wraps the last leg of their ‘Viva La Vida’ tour (if you can believe it) tonight in Monterey, Mexico.
