Issac Brock of Modest Mouse, Sea Wolf: Concert Review and Photos
By Seraphina L.Manifest Equality was upon us last week as we all celebrated what it should be like to have equal rights. BeatCrave was lucky enough to attend one of the event’s shows on Saturday night where bands such as Sea Wolf and Issac Brock of Modest Mouse rocked the house. Although the “house” was literally an old space of Big Lots, Manifest Equality did a wonderful job of turning the old bargain shopping store into an art gallery where pieces of art made powerful statements about gay marriage and civil rights. We didn’t actually get a performance from Sam Sparro, but DJ Daisy O’Dell was spinning some great tunes for a great cause.
It was an eclectic crowd who came to out party in the name of equal rights, so it wasn’t a shock that even celebrities such as Black Eyed Peas‘ will.i.am came out to support the event. There was plenty to do before the musical acts came on as the entire room was eye candy with purpose. The open bars didn’t hurt either.
However, after a few announcements about some accomplishments everyone had made together during the week, the music was truly what brought everyone together. Sea Wolf performed a very strong and poignant opening set. The folk band had no troubles with lifting people’s spirits on a night that seemed to be plagued by LA rain. Soon enough the entire gallery gathered warmth through the swinging of guitars on stage and the swaying of bodies on the dance floor.
Then the real treat came toward the end of the night. Modest Mouse’s Issac Brock took the stage to play some solo material he hadn’t played in years. The bold vocals we all know so well from Modest Mouse songs were stripped down to the bare bones with his accompanying band but the songwriting was astonishingly refreshingly new. Skilled in a diverse set of instruments including banjo and guitar, Brock set the perfect mood for celebration that night.
