Concert Tickets: Conan O’Brien, Kate Nash, The Swell Season…
By Brian Spiegel
I’m still angry about Up In The Air getting shut out at the Oscars, but for you I’ll trudge on and give you a handful of ticket options to spend your cash on this weekend. This isn’t exactly the most marquee week of the year, but solid none-the-less. Enjoy and stay tuned next week for info on a Pearl Jam tour and, yes, possibly some definitive info on that darn Lilith Faire festival which looks so damn enticing…
Headliner: Conan O’Brien (!)
Opener: Andy Richter (!)
Dates: April 12th in Eugene, OR. thru June 14th in Atlanta. Dates here.
Price: $37-$90
What’s The Deal?: This is a night of comedy, music and more all in the vein of Conan O’Brien beloved (a missed) talk show formula including his band, new characters and even Andy f-ing Richter. Conan is funnier then just about anybody. Even the name of the tour, “The Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour” is funnier then anything that Jay Leno has ever said, wrote, or even thought. Financial issues be damned, i’m considering robbing a bank to catch this one…
Tickets on Sale: This weekend.

Headliner: The Swell Season
Opener: TBA (I want to start a band named TBA just to confuse people then have a side project that opens the shows named “there will be no opener” so that on the marquee it will read “TBA with there will be no opener”…)
Dates: May 15th in Kalamazoo, MI thru May 30th in Cleveland, OH. Dates here.
Price: $30-$45
What’s The Deal?: Academy Award winners The Swell Season hit the road for US dates this spring in support of their “Strictly Joy” album. The fourteen piece, who are anchored by former couple Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova (who you may remember as the stars of the movie “Once”), are also set to play a handful of festivals this summer including a performance at the Hollywood Bowl on July 18th.

Headliner: Kate Nash
Opener: TBA
Dates: April 26th in Toronto thru May 11th in Los Angeles. Find dates here.
Price: $20-$25
What’s The Deal?: English songstress Kate Nash will hit the states for three weeks of shows this spring. This tour will be in support of the singers second disc “My Best Friend Is You” and comes on the heels of the announcement that Nash will take part in at least a few of the Lilith Faire dates this summer.

Headliner: Ben Folds (and a piano)
Opener: Kate Miller- Heidke
Dates: In addition to the East Coast dates announced last month, a whole new batch of West Coast dates have been released beginning May 7th in Austin, TX thru May 16th in San Francisco. New dates here.
Price: $20-$30 (piano included)
What’s The Deal?: Ben Folds is one of those artists who has a massive following yet isn’t quite mainstream enough to be considered an “it” artist. With that said I’d put “Army” up against just about any other song recorded in the last decade. Expect lots of piano and lots of Fold’s frantic singing style.

Headliner: Caribou
Opener: TBA
Dates: May 3rd in Toronto thru June 11th in Halifax (trust me, they go other places other than Western Canada). Find all dates here.
Price: $15-$25
What’s The Deal?: Caribou, the Ontario based band, not the tundra-dwelling reindeer, will set out for a lengthy six week tour of North America bringing their own brand of psychedelic rock to the masses. Come to think of it, if real like caribou came to perform at a local concert hall I think I might attend. I would assume they would sound something like Vampire Weekend mixed with MGMT…
