Ryan Adams Goes Metal On New Album
By Jeffrey Hyatt
Ryan Adams is back. Oh, and he’s releasing a ‘legit metal record.’ Shelving his usual alt.-country tunes, Adams, whose last official album release was 2008′s Cardinology, has announced he’s going to release the metal-inspired Orion via his Pax-Am label.
You can sample a new tune, which might or might not be called “Electrosnake,” on his website.
A note on his website reads:
“We’re going to begin pressing ORION — my most legit METAL record — on vinyl next week. Have a listen to the song below and let us at PAXAM know if you’d be interested in purchasing one.”
Adams added: “P.S. Not a single B.C. Rich was hurt in the making of this record.”
The song doesn’t exactly scream ‘metal,’ but it doesn’t suck; it features a hard-driving, guitar groove, and it’s definitely rough and messy in all the right places.
Adams has not mentioned a release date for Orion, but the vinyl pressing begins next week; fans can vote on whether they want to purchase a copy on Adams’s website.
Pitchfork points out that Adams has played around with metal before (mostly in a joking way), via his kooky, web-only Werewolph side project. So who knows… maybe he’s really serious about the metal thing, or it’s going to be a big joke. Either way, I intend to listen!
What do you think about Ryan Adams, metal god?
