Video: Ke$ha Invades American Idol
By Travis Woods
The lowest common denominator slinked a lot lower last night on Fox’s American Idol, featuring two of the dumbest names in pop music (no, I mean literally, their names are, you know, stupid): pop starlet Kei$ha was joined onstage by electronic act 3OH!3 for a performance of the aptly titled, heavily auto-tuned hit “Blah Blah Blah.”
Her face slathered in warpaint, her head adorned with a fuzzy Native American headdress, and her body wrapped in fishnets and sparkles, the 23 year-old Kei$ha showed American Idol contestants what it takes to be a star: little to no self-consciousness, backup dancers with TV’s stuck on their heads, and lots and lots and lots of auto-tune.
As she became more and more entangled in a series of TV cords attached to her dancers, Kei$ha ensnared the American Idol audience with her awful, awful, well, awfulness and somehow managed to make us all actually long for the halcyon days when Britney Spears would grace a concert stage, lip-syncing to processed vocals and finishing a performance without reaching for a bucket of fried chicken and a Red Bull.
In case you think I’m being a little unfair, check out the video below – but don’t say you weren’t warned.
What do you think of the performance?
