SXSW 2010: Photos of Crystal Fighters
By Andy Keil
One of the most surprising acts of the festival for me was Crystal Fighters, an incredible dance band out of the UK. I’m actually at a loss for words when trying to describe them but what I can tell you is they played several oddly shaped pieces of wood as percussion instruments…yeah. Good stuff.
Michael Wylie-Harris says it best in a live review for tourdates.co.uk
With their screamingly unhinged live show, Crystal Fighters were a blood, sweat and tears type antidote to all things festive (had he been there – and we’re pretty sure he wasn’t – Cliff Richard might well have wept). Blurring the lines between what’s dance and what’s, well, not, the Spanish five-piece put on a show that’s more eyeball burningly wild than a night in with the Louis Walsh, the Jedward boys and a litre of amyl nitrate.
The only thing he gets wrong is the fact that they’re not Spanish. For some reason journalists seem to think that the trio is from Spain when in fact they’re from London. Oh, and the group is only three people, that’s kind of important as well. This was confirmed with publicists for the band who were at the showcase.
