SXSW Freelance Whales 1 SXSW 2010: Photos of Freelance Whales

Freelance Whales were a popular act at this years SXSW festival, they played a number of parties during the week including the French Kiss Records party which is where I caught them. The outfit from Queens, New York kicked off the party by opening for the likes of Local Natives, An Horse, Suckers, and Les Savy Fav — all on the record label.

As with most acts at SXSW, their set was a little short clocking in at roughly 35 minutes. But, what can you do when you many acts are set to perform? As openers, the Freelance Whales managed to bring in a decent sized crowd to the Galaxy Room outdoor patio and by the time they were finished playing they left the tent absolutely packed for festival favorites Local Natives.

The Freelance Whales played in support of their latest effort, Weathervanes, which was released on French Kiss earlier this year. If you haven’t already heard of this band, expect the chatter to get pretty loud as they keep hitting up festivals as their live show isn’t one to be missed…
