SXSW 2010: Photos of Suckers
By Andy Keil
The very last band I saw at the French Kiss Records party was Suckers, a foursome out of Brooklyn, New York. Of all the bands I saw while in Austin for SXSW, Suckers was easily the most surprising. I went into the show having never heard of the band before which left my ears a blank canvas for the sonic goodness that the band had to offer. Their music lies somewhere in the ether between indie, noise, and electro rock. Exactly where that is though, I have no idea.
If you’re familiar with Bear In Heaven, the lead signer made it a point to give them a shout out, “they’re my boys,” he stated rather matter of factly as though everyone was wondering. While they’ve only released a single EP the strongest song that the band played was “It Get’s Your Body Movin’,” the last track off that self-titled EP.
The band is currently on a US tour with the festival favorites and indie up-and-comers Local Natives. The tour has already sold out two Chicago dates so if you don’t have your tickets just yet, I suggest you pick them up if they aren’t already sold out. Expect big things from this Brooklyn band.
