Proving that he’s either completely lost touch with reality, or simply willing to playfully participate in the ridiculousness of his own self-created mythology (either way it makes him hip-hop’s William Shatner), Snoop Dogg is re-releasing his 2008 album Malice N Wonderland today, repackaging what the abnormally slim (for him) album of 14 tracks with an additional eight tunes with assistance from Jay-Z and Kid Cudi. But there’s more, a lot more…

Here’s the kicker—Snoop has released a tie-in film in which he plays ‘Malice,’ a superhero who escapes “from his unruly surroundings to Wonderland, the same concept as the album,” according to MTV. A superhero. Yup. And his powers?

“I’m able to deflect bullets and cause a great range of sound that can blow your eardrums out. You know, I can just do many different things, whatever I want to do with my hands. This is the power that I wanted that people could identify with that wasn’t so farfetched, like me flying through the sky or going through a building. That’s just kind of hard to believe, but the way I got it, it’s believable.”

Which makes sense, in a way—while I’d find it rather hard to identify with a Snoop who flies above us all, shoots lasers from his eyes, or breathes pure ice, imagining the rapper moving bullets Neo-style with his hands is pretty easy to believe especially after sharing a few of his home-rolled ‘cigarettes.’

Malice N Wonderland premiered last night at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.

What do you think of Snoop Dogg’s new superpowered alter-ego?
