John Prine Tribute Features My Morning Jacket And Drive-By Truckers

If there’s anyone deserving of a tribute album damn right it’s legendary singer-songwriter John Prine. And it just so happens the new tribute collection Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows: Songs of John Prine is going to shine bright with a phenomenal cast of indie rock artists, each of whom can surely point to the 63 year-old country/folk star as a source of musical inspiration; Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, Conor Oberst, My Morning Jacket and the Avett Brothers to name a few.

Featuring twelve newly-recorded versions of classic Prine songs, Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows boasts an enviable roll call of lauded, inventive musicians and songwriters.

“That Prine’s perspective flourishes so vividly in these modern re-castings,” reads a statement from Oh Boy, “is testament to not only the sheer power of his songs, but to the subtly defiant undercurrent that runs throughout Prine’s oeuvre.”

NPR previously streamed Vernon’s contribution to the tribute album, a cover of “Bruised Orange (Chain Of Sorrow)” during its recent Spring Music Preview.

Oh Boy Records will release a new live record from John Prine entitled In Person & On Stage on May 25. The album is a culmination of his last few years touring and contains 14 songs – classic hits and new tunes from the Grammy Award-winning Fair & Square.
