Iceland Volcano Forces The Cribs To Cancel Coachella Iceland Volcano Forces The Cribs To Cancel Coachella

As previously reported, the ashes of the Icelandic volcano eruption which are currently covering all of the UK and surrounding geographic locations have left people stranded at international airports, including Heathrow in London and LAX in Los Angeles. BBC is now reporting that the canceled flights may still be grounded Saturday morning. As much as we are concerned for people’s safety in the air (not only is vision impaired but the ash cloud would also harm airplane engines making them defected altogether), many Coachella attendees will have broken schedules in regards to the lineup.

We’ve reported a number of artists who are stranded in Europe and still trying to figure out a game plan. Unfortunately, we know for certain that The Cribs have canceled their Coachella set for good.

Johnny Marr took time to let fans know about their circumstantial regret as he posted a blog on The Cribs’ MySpace announcing the sad news:

“We are pretty gutted to be frank, currently languishing in the grimmest ferry port after waiting for good news about free airspace that never came. We were really looking forward to playing this year, the slot sounded perfect, outdoor at dusk, and the last time we played Coachella was really fun.”

For those of you bummed out about missing The Cribs, some consolation can be found in the fact that they may be able to play next year? There is a rule for bands which says you can only play every four years. Since they couldn’t play this year, perhaps they’ll get rescheduled for next year. No one knows if they’re going on tour in the States next year, but here’s hoping to Coachella!

Sadly, Bad Lieutenant has also canceled, but keep hoping for the rest of them trying to make their way here. There hasn’t been a confirmation either way for Frightened Rabbits. Gary Numan is still counting on making it in on Sunday morning. We also still waiting on Los Compensinos! but it doesn’t look too great with their Laval show cancelled now. [Update: According to Pitchfork, Frightened Rabbits are unable to play. Our crew on Indio grounds report Gary Numan as canceled. Coachella has also announced Delphic's cancellation.]

Muse, Gorillaz, Thom Yorke, PiL, The Specials, Florence and the Machine, The xx,  Hot Chip, Fever Ray and Echo and the Bunnymen are all safe though.

We’ll keep you updated Coachella goers!
