Bruce Springsteen To Release Three-Hour HD Concert Film
By Travis Woods
Rolling Stone reports that singer/ all-around rock ‘n roll badass Bruce Springsteen will be releasing a DVD and Blu-ray of his monolithic, 27-song performance at London’s Hard Rock Calling festival that took place on June 28th, 2009. London Calling: Live in Hyde Park will be released on June 22nd, and, if you couldn’t tell by the title, the set features a burning version of the Clash’s “London Calling.”
The DVD, which covers musical ground from the classic Born to Run all the way down to the Boss’ latest, Working on a Dream, features a host of covers beyond the clash—the nearly three-hour concert also displayed Springsteen and the E-Street Band taking on songs by Jimmy Cliff, the Young Rascals, Eddie Floyd, and Stephen Foster’s 1854 tune, “Hard Times (Come Again No More).”
The set also features a guest spot from The Gaslight Anthem’s Brian Fallon on the classic Springsteen track, “No Surrender.” The disc will also contain two bonus features: “Wrecking Ball” from Springsteen’s last Meadowlands concert and “The River” from the E-Street Band’s 2009 Glastonbury performance.
The concert’s entirety was filmed in HD—expect your eyes to be popping out of your head. And if you’re eyes are rolling right now at that hyperbole, you keep your filthy mouth shut. The Boss fights for you. And c’mon—the man wrote “Thunder Road”!
What do you think? Will you pick up the new DVD/ Blu-ray?
