Courtney Love Changes Name, Stops Talking About Kurt

Entertainment Weekly reports that funeral-makeup practice cadaver/ rock singer Courtney Love no longer has any use for her famous last name, insisting that she will now go on using her given name, Courtney Michelle Harrison.

Says Love, er, Harrison:

“Courtney Love is dead. We’ve all decided we don’t like her anymore… We love her when she goes onstage, but I don’t need her in the rest of my life. The name Courtney Love is a way to oppress me.”

While I suppose we should applaud this move for independence (I guess, anyway… I mean, I think that’s what this is supposed to be, right?), I’m not sure just how rock ‘n roll the name Courtney Michelle Harrison is, especially when compared to the much cooler-sounding ‘Courtney Love.”  The name ‘Courtney Love’ just has a certain spark to it that ‘Courtney Michelle Harrison’ would lose, kind of like how Courtney’s music went downhill after Kurt stopped writing it (rimshot!).

Speaking of Cobain, Love/ Harrison/ Whatever also stated that she no longer wishes to be known solely as the late Nirvana singer’s widow:

“I am not his spokesperson on Earth. I don’t know what he’d be like now, he could be into society girls, he could be into fat girls, he could be homosexual. We don’t know, he died at 27.”

After stating that she is no longer living in the shadow of Kurt, Courtney then went on to sue 14 different companies for using Cobain’s likeness, to approve of the actors, actresses and director to be utilized in the upcoming Cobain biopic, and then attempted to release several more Cobain demos is a lavishly-packaged Nirvana boxset.
