Ben Gibbard Hints At New Death Cab For Cutie Album
By Travis Woods
Death Cab for Cutie, fans brace yourselves—according to Spin, head Cab/ Mr. Zooey Deschanel Ben Gibbard claims that you can expect a new DCC–their first since 2008′s Narrow Stairs–disc coming your way next year:
“We’re going in the studio in June to start working on the record… We’re going to be recording through the summer and into the fall… we’re probably looking for a spring 2011 release.”
Further, despite the fact that all Death Cab for Cutie members now live in different cities, Gibbard claims that the band is closer than ever:
“I feel like we have a lot more records to make… I strangely feel closer to my bandmates than I ever have before… We’ve all kind of landed in a place in our lives, personally and professionally, where we can all get together and enjoy each other’s company and enjoy making music.”
Wait—Death Cab for Cutie and/ or Ben Gibbard aren’t depressed? What does this mean for the band’s brand of indie-fied sad bastard music? Will Zooey somehow be the new Yoko and drive Gibbard into “Shiny Happy People”-dom? Only time will tell, but I’d still totally let Zooey break up my band.
What do you think of the news of a new Death Cab album?
