M.I.A. Music Video Born Free M.I.A. Music Video: Born Free

We brought you M.I.A.‘s track, “Born Free,” on Friday and now we’ve got the brand spanking new video to go along with it. Similarly to Lady Gaga, (which she’ll be upset about if she finds out about this comparison) the video is nearly 10 minutes long and meant to be a short film. However, very much unlike Lady Gaga, there isn’t any scandalous choreographed dance moves and Wonder Bread in M.I.A.’s video.

Instead, the punk rock song is a soundtrack to a gruesome depiction of state-armed forces where commandos do about anything to find who they want. Who they want is any red-headed male and where they put them is a jail bus which takes them to a location where absolutely graphic things happen. We won’t spoil the ending for you but it’s best not to eat while watching this music video.

M.I.A. announced the video premier on her Twitter late last night around 3 in the morning, however the link to YouTube presented the message telling us the video had been removed and was no longer available in the US. Due to the violence and graphic nature, M.I.A. and others assumed it was Universal Music Group‘s doing. Upset, the singer-rapper tweeted, “FUCK UMG WHO WON’T SHOW IT ON YOUTUBE! FOR THE U.S.” and provided a link to watch the video on her website.

It is now available on Daily Motion as seen below. Ads for French crépes may pop up but you’ll lose your appetite soon enough. Watch the video below and let us know what you think!

What do you think of the “Born Free” video from M.I.A.?

The point is that people don't want to believe genocide still happens and that they would care more if the victims looked similar to them.
