Listen: Interpol Return With “Lights”
By Seraphina L.
Interpol is working on a fourth studio album after what seemed like a long hiatus enough for us to forget we loved them so much back in 2002 with Turn On the Bright Lights. With vocalist Paul Blanks donning the Julian Plenti moniker and drummer Sam Fogarino becoming one half of Magnetic Morning (formerly The Setting Suns), we’re really thankful the group is back together.
The album is still untitled but we do finally have a song from the band. “Lights” is a track which deserves to be played into every one’s ears as it has all the right elements to a mini-comeback song. It’s dark, bare and mysterious to start out with but gradually builds up into the the powerful chorus backed by some major guitar work – all coming off as something magnificent. Music in 2010 just got this much better, folks.
Who knows what slot it takes in the track list or if “Lights” will be part of some major dark versus light theme Interpol could pull off. However, we do know that it would be a perfect opener for the album since it gives us just enough to pull us back into their indie rock spell. The end of the song is really brilliant as it has some thick layers going on but is just still a taste of what’s to come.
Interpol’s website is currently offering the song as a free download on their website in a similar fashion to The National‘s Bloodbuzz Ohio” from High Violet. However, just save yourself some precious time and download away from the widget below!
Take a bite out of their upcoming album with “Lights.” We’ll let you know when you can eat the entire cake (with us, of course).
