TT TW 5 5 10 Auto Tune To Now Begin Destroying The Music Of The Temptations

While music fans have been content to let Auto-Tune simply ruin the modern pop music that isn’t all that great to begin with (and by ‘isn’t all that great’ I mean the sound of a roomful of mewling cats killing one another), the dark moment we’ve always feared has finally come—once-respected classic artists are now embracing the soulless, robo-voiced trapping of modern studio knob-twisting.  Even a beloved soul act like, sigh, the Temptations have now found themselves stripping the humanity from their vocals with the audio-processing program.

Spinner reports that the Temps (c’mon, you guys gave us “My Girl”—you don’t have to do this!) are utilizing the new technology on their 49th album, Still Here, to stay in step with “the kids” of today.  Says founding member Otis Williams:

“We’re trying to let our fans know that we’re in the here and now, but still know where we came from… I’m very analytical about everything. I sit and listen over and over. The Temptations, for what we’re known for, we try to stay in character. We know we’re not rappers and hip-hop, but we want to stay on the cutting edge. The kids nowadays, they like what we do but it’s good to try and give them a taste of what the sound is like today.”

Speaking of cutting edge, please excuse me for a moment while I hunt down and hide all the sharp objects in my home before I play the new record.  Safety first, I always say.

What do you think of the Temptations incorporating Auto-Tune into their music?
