Guess Who Is America’s Favorite Singer/ Musician?
By Travis Woods
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa—huddle up here, America. Really, we’ve got to talk about this.
Yahoo Finance reported today that a recent Harris Poll of 2,320 representative American adults was held between March 1st through the 8th of 2010. The question asked was this: who is your favorite musician/ artist, and what is your favorite song by that person/ band? And I know what you’re saying about the #1 spot—Beatles, Stones, Elvis, hell, even the Boss, right? Because this is your favorite artist of all time.
This is where the disgust kicks in.
The Beatles only came in at Number 4, with Elvis eeking in at Number 3. Somehow, Alan “Hey! Hey, you guys! 9/11, you guys, 9/11! Ch-ching, ch-ching, ch-ching!” Jackson tied with Frank Sinatra for the Number 9 spot, while Tim McGraw, Lady Gaga, George Straight, and Rascal Flatts filled out the middle portion of the list.
The top two spots though… oh, America. How could you do this? Number 2 favorite artist of all time—U freaking 2. But that’s ok—I don’t agree, but sure, I can get it. Number 1, however… sigh… is Celine. Dion. Celine Dion. Yes, her.
So what does Dion at the Number 1 spot mean? Well, either America has been sucked into a vortex a la Planet of the Apes in which all things are reverted back to 1998, and the world is populated and controlled by stretchpants-clothed housewives (at least we know that in about a year or so they’ll drop Dion and listen to nothing but “Con te partirò” by Andrea Bocelli), or we just have really, really bad taste (comments wall, proceed to go nuts).
I mean, Dion—c’mon, America!
What do you think of the results of the poll?

I don't see the big deal. Why do you have to care so much? Having a favorite artist is completely subjective, anyways. If America thinks Dion is the msot popular artist, then so be it. Who freaking cares?

I don't see what the big deal is. If America voted Dion as their 'most popular singer', then so be it. Musical taste is completely subjective, anyways. Who cares?

Travis – I bet you would have been fine if # 1 was Woriah Carey or Madonna. But at least THE #1 is someone who works hard and can actually sing live without any doubt!!! Most of the divas nowadays can't sing live so I'm all for a real talent like Celine Dion in the top spot!! This survey reflects another survey that came out not so long ago about American middle-aged men who secretly love to listen to Celine Dion. Good for her! The media has to stop mocking her and people have to admit to loving her music. Period. C'mon she's sold over 200 million albums wordlwide, which makes her the top female selling artist in the ENTIRE world. So I guess TONS of people do love Celine!!!
