The National Music Video: Bloodbuzz Ohio
By Seraphina L.
For those of you who have patiently waited for The National‘s latest album, High Violet – the day is finally here! Officially released today via 4AD, The National’s gorgeous album is available for everyone and what better way to all celebrate it than by watching an official video for their first official single, “Bloodbuzz Ohio?”
To dramatically match the rich baritone of lead vocalist Matt Berninger, the video is shot in mostly black and white with a bit of shadows enhancing a few scenes. There’s not much going on but we still appreciate the sophisticated look of the video to go along with what is possibly one of our favorite songs of 2010 so far.
The other members aren’t really present in the 4:35 of this visual accompaniment to the song but Berninger’s attempt at dancing make for a nice break from his stoic, sometimes pondering looks he has that often makes him come off as suave. There are a ton of close ups of him but there are also a lot of shot with the singer to the right of the screen. It’s a little heartwarming to see him crack up after trying a few new dance moves here and there toward the end. It was a nice touch from directors Hope Hall, Andreas Burgess, and Matt’s wife Carin Besser to include that shot.
