Arcade Fire Presents “The Suburbs” (Maybe)

If there is one thing the internet is good for, it’s ceaseless, rampant, and unfounded speculation about the upcoming activities of our favorite musicians, actors, directors, etc.  And so today is no different, giving the skinny-jeans set of internet hounds reason to, if not celebrate, than to at least ratchet up their anticipation to dizzying levels: Pitchfork noted that a banner recently appeared on Arcade Fire’s website reading “Arcade Fire presents ‘The Suburbs’.”

The banner was first mentioned on Joel’s Arcade Fire Blog, which notes that ‘The Suburbs’ part of the banner has disappeared, leaving only “Arcade Fire presents.”  The blog goes on to speculate on the following:

“Could be the title of the new album, could be a new song, could be the title of the short film they’ve been working on with Spike Jonze. But something is definitely called “The Suburbs” and Arcade Fire are presenting it…  Now it only says “Arcade Fire presents”, but if you check out the source code you’ll still find this post’s title in the header.”

Not exactly an earth shattering development, but in our current age in which the big music news of the day is that Lady Gaga has died her hair gray, Justin Bieber doesn’t know what ‘German’ means, and that the Twilight series has an adept and calculating music supervisor, you gotta take your possible gems when you can find ‘em.
