Liam Gallagher’s New Band To Soundtrack Apple Records Film (Of Course)
By Travis Woods
Remember how we told you about ex-Oasis frontman/ faded John Lennon copy-of-a-copy-of-copy-of-a-copy Liam Gallagher’s plans to make a film about the Beatles’ — of course — Apple Corps record label? Well, NME reports that the singer announced at Cannes earlier this week that he’s found a “more exciting” group than the Beatles to soundtrack the upcoming film—his new band.
According to Gallagher:
“[We could use The Beatles] if we want it. But we’re gonna do it – my new band’s going to do the soundtrack. We can recreate that sound like that, you know what I mean? I think it will be more exciting if you have a sound that reminds you of that era, instead of the obvious, going, ‘Oh, there’s ‘Let It Be’’.”
Right. Because while the film is not entirely centered on the Beatles – it’s based on Apple employee Richard DiLello’s memoirs about the record label itself – a movie soundtrack about the band’s own label would be better served not by the music of one of the greatest rock/ pop groups in the history of rock/ pop, but rather the unnamed new band fronted by the snotty singer of what was essentially an overhyped Beatles cover act (yeah, ok, Definitely Maybe and What’s the Story were pretty good, though).
Gallagher’s band, which is comprised of fellow Oasis detritus Andy Bell, Gem Archer and Chris Sharrock, has yet to release any new music, let alone a band name, though NME reports that they will make their debut in November.
What do you think of Gallagher’s band soundtracking the film about the Beatles’ record label?
