Listen: Arcade Fire Offers Snippets – The Suburbs and Month Of May

Arcade Fire and their team have come up with some clever ideas on how to create the buzz around them since it’s been three years since the release of Neon Bible. Last week, they sent a postcard to the internet sharing the news of a single coming our way pretty soon. Does soon mean June 1?

Nothing is set in stone yet even though Amazon listed the 12″ on their site (but then removed it.) Here’s what is  definite though: “The Suburbs” is indeed the first single off of the upcoming album and it’ll be released as a 12″ with “Month of May” as its B-side.

With this fun widget below, you can highlight which song you’d like to hear a preview of and it’ll play a very short snippet complete with vinyl pops and scratches. You can watch the widget spin and flip over as you listen to the two new songs. Fun!

So far, “The Suburbs” has a very light and happy feel to which is somewhat of a change from the signature Arcade Fire sound of heavy multi-layered arrangements. However, “Month Of May” goes even further to surprise us as it gives off a rockabilly vibe with a splash of punk vocals. “Gonna make a record in the month of May” is repeated quite a bit. Are they trying to tell us something? It’s May now! Why don’t we have our Arcade Fire album in our hands yet?
