Big Whup CP 5 22 2010f Big Whup: Silver Lake Jubilee Photos and Review

The Big Whup was our first stop at this weekend’s Silver Lake Jubilee festival after going through the nice process of press badges (which was completely easy – thumbs up to that). Although this five-piece band is fairly new around Los Angeles, they definitely make an interesting first impression. (Just look at the photo above – Yes, that is a stuffed unicorn she is singing into!) Also, with Geoff Geis of Pizza!, a band we have grown to love within the last year, we knew Big Whup would definitely have something to bring as one of the early acts for the day.

On the other side of the spectrum in regards to where Pizza! stands, Big Whup is definitely more pop-oriented but their songs are endearing and catchy – just the way pop music should be. Pop music often sounds great when so many members of the band are already in the process of writing music for separate bands. Not only did we have Pizza! members but Big Whup also brought together members of Brain House, Reclamation, and the Fix.

As if we weren’t already amused to see their lead vocalist sing into a pink stuffed animal, the boy-girl vocals winding around those violin lines made us look forward to the rest of the day in music.

Check out some of our photos below!
