Downtown/Union: Silver Lake Jubilee Photos and Review
By Seraphina L.
Downtown/Union is also one of the many classic LA indie rock bands we love to see out and about. Their performance at Sunday’s Silver Lake Jubilee was a rare treat for us since it’s been a while since we’ve be able to catch a set of theirs. In perfect time to promote an album they’re currently working on, Downtown/Union (named after a bus station and its route) started our relaxing Sunday off quite nicely.
With a garage rock sound which reminds of the greats such as Superchunk and The Feelies, we were digging this outside. It’s just a shame they didn’t have a crowd as big as some of the later acts. We understand it’s hard to roll out of bed on a lazy Sunday but if you’re going to jump out of bed for an excellent local band, Downtown/Union is one of them.
As if we weren’t already fans, the band also has a certain honest charm to them that we find endearing. Thanking friends and family members who came out to support them was nice enough but to go on another saccharine-sweet level to call all of us their family as well was acceptable.
