Pixies Bringing Doolittle Tour Back To The US
By Jeffrey Hyatt
After nearly 40 sold out concerts around the globe since last year, The Pixies are set to bring their Doolittle Tour back to the U.S. for 11 shows, which begins September 7 at the Tower Theater in Philadelphia; the 11-city trek keeps the Doolittle Tour train a-rollin’ as the band celebrates the 20th anniversary of their classic 1989 album, Doolittle.
Check below for the tour schedule!
On this tour, the Pixies – Black Francis, Kim Deal, Joey Santiago and David Lovering – will perform all of the songs from Doolittle and its related B-sides, “Weird at My School,” “Dancing the Manta Ray,” and “Bailey’s Walk” among them. Doolittle, the band’s third album, includes awesome tunes like “Debaser,” “Wave of Mutilation,” “Here Comes Your Man,” “Hey,” and “Gouge Away.”
The concert opens with the showing of the 1929 silent surrealist short film, Un Chien Andalou, which was produced in France by Spanish director Luis Bunuel and artist Salvador Dali, and provided the impetus for Black Francis in writing “Debaser.”
The Pixies have been performing non-Doolittle material in their encore set – so definitely expect to hear some other Pixies tunes from their fine back catalog.
Each of the shows on the 11-city tour will be recorded, and the CDs will be made available right after each show at the venue. Or, all live CDs can also be ordered at www.doolittlelive.com.
The Doolittle Tour launched on September 30, 2009 in Dublin, Ireland. The tour came to America last November, playing multiple-nights in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York.
Fuck Buttons, the two-piece electronic pop group from Bristol, England, will open all shows.

I wish more bands would do the live CD available right after the show thing. I still have mine from the first reunion tour. Great souvenir.

They did it last year, why in the heck did they decide to do it again? I saw them do it last year and Doolittle is undoubtedly part of alt. rock's canon of the most influential albums to come out of the 1980's but move forward already. Like Sonic Youth touring for Daydream Nation, they did it, good for them, it made sense, and they moved forward. I think the Pixies should seriously start looking into adding new songs other than Bom Thwok to their repertoire because this wave of nostalgia they seem to be riding on is wearing thin at least for me. I think they've let this second wind in their career go to their heads too. I saw 3/4 of the Pixies last year, without Kim, and a lot excited fans at the front of the stage and were screaming at Joey, saying "hi", "joey, I love you", and he didn't even look up from his guitar or wave or acknowledge them and this was in a small club setting mind you. I thought that was a bit disappointing to witness.
