Jimmy Page Planning To Release New Music
By Jeffrey Hyatt
A ‘guitar hero’ if there ever was one, Jimmy Page is back in the studio recording new music. Hey, if Robert Plant can hang with country artist Alison Krauss and John Paul Jones can rock out with supergroup Them Crooked Vultures, then surely Page can find something musically creative to do while the universe waits patiently for a Led Zeppeiln reunion tour.
Page, who was inducted into the Mojo Hall Of Fame in London Thursday night, told 6 Music he was working on new material with a number of different projects.
“I’m just looking forward to making some music and surprising people with it,” Page said. “It won’t be just teaming up with lots of people who are [big] names. I’ve got an idea of something which I’ve had for a long time and now’s the time to do it.”
Page is now part of IE Management and admitted the upcoming tunes would be a change in direction from his previous work. But we’re still left wondering about what’s in store because Page, keeping with tradition, wouldn’t divulge any inside info about his collaborators or the new music.
“I have got other ideas that have been nagging at me for a long long time, I think the way to present music is same picture different frame, and sometimes this frame is quite radical,” he said.
Page was recently seen talking and jamming with the Edge and Jack White in the guitar documentary It Might Get Loud.
Along with Page’s induction into the Mojo Hall Of Fame, Duane Eddy collected the icon award, Richard Thompson took the Les Paul award, Roy Wood was presented with the classic songwriter prize and members of Hawkwind were there to accept the maverick award.
According to Page the new material will be available later this year.
