Baroness 6 Bonnaroo 2010: Baroness

Thursday June 10, 2010 marked the first day of Bonnaroo, one of the largest destination festivals in the U.S. Most patrons spend hours waiting in long lines of cars before being funneled through the gates and their possessions searched. The first part of the journey ends only after being crammed into double wide camping spaces and tents are erected. If it were any typical camping trip, you would probably stop to rest and maybe take a nap in the shade but when this journey is the beginning of the four-day music festival known as Bonnaroo, you’ve got no choice but to pound a few beers and head into Centeroo where some of the festivals first bands are competing for your ears.

Baroness, a progressive metal band from Savannah, GA, made it a point to wake up the crowd at The Other Tent with their intense live show. John Baizley’s ‘verbed out vocals slide effortlessly behind Peter Adams’ guitar and Summer Welch’s bass peaking out at all the right moments. Baroness was the first heavy band to play during the weekend while Isis and Clutch took to the stage later on.

The setlist for Thursday’s set is below:

  1. Bullhead’s Psalm
  2. The Sweetest Curse
  3. Jake Leg
  4. Isak
  5. The Birthing
  6. Ogeechee Hymnal
  7. A Horse Called Golgotha
  8. War, Wisdom and Rhyme
  9. Swollen and Halo
  10. The Gnashing
  11. Grad

Andy, great review. Hope to see more of the pictures from the shows. Also, maybe we can get some of the partying on the roof shots.
