Arcade Fire Will Match Your Pledge For Haiti Arcade Fire Will Match Your Pledge For Haiti

There’s no doubt that Port-au-Prince, Haiti is still suffering from the massive earthquake that struck six months ago and Arcade Fire is still urging people to donate what they can. They were one of the first bands to react in a proactive manner and gather people together after the natural disaster and they’re not stopping their good deeds any time soon. Even all the way from Canada, band member, RĂ©gine Chassagne, was deeply affected by the event as her parents emigrated from Haiti to Canada.

Now, the Arcade Fire multi-instrumentalist and singer and her husband, Win Butler, are finding a way to bring money from Canada and everywhere else to Haiti through a non-profit organization called Kanpe. They’re encouraging everyone to donate just a little so they, in return, can also donate a very large sum on behalf of the band.

According to The New York Times (via Pitchfork), Arcade Fire used their set at the Quebec Summer Festival to shed some light on a new project where they will match one’s pledge through Kanpe. Chassagne is part of the Kanpe board and has some pull with the organization and, of course, her fans. Butler and Chassagne both revealed that it is easy as texting the word “STAND” to donate $5. The best part of their plan is that they plan on matching all our donations up to a million Canadian dollars. That’s a lot of money! Nonetheless, Butler pleaded festival goers to “take our money.” It’s as simple as that. If people donate up to a million dollars, Arcade Fire will also send a million dollars.

To find out more about the Kanpe organization you can go to the official Kanpe website. (The default language is French but you can click “English” at the top for translation.)

What do you think of Arcade Fire’s mission to match a one million dollar pledge?
