Joe Perry Released From Hospital After Motorcycle Accident

After all of the Steven Tyler hoopla earlier this year that had many Aerosmith fans wondering if the band would ever be the same, the last thing we need now that Aerosmith has its house in order is for lead guitarist Joe Perry to go get himself rear-ended by a car when he’s cruising on his motorcycle.

So that happened. Perry was, indeed, rear-ended by a car, and he has since been treated for minor injuries at Morton Hospital and Medical Center in Taunton, Massachusetts, according to the Boston Globe.

Middleborough police say Perry was on his 2009 Ducati Monster 696 early Thursday afternoon when he was struck from behind by a car driven by 62-year-old Linda O’Brien. Both vehicles were traveling at a low speed.

The 59-year-old Perry, who lives in nearby Duxbury, was taken to a hospital and released a couple of hours later.

“They were both shook up a little bit, but she said he was really nice and he said he was fine. She told me, ‘Of all the people to hit, it had to be a rock star!’ ” Linda O’Brien’s daughter-in-law, Crystal O’Brien, told the Boston Herald.

O’Brien, who was not injured, was cited for following too closely.

But Perry, thankfully, is fine and now the rock n’ roll can continue, which is good news considering it was only January when we were discussing whether or not Billy Idol would be replacing Steven Tyler in the band.

The accident is not expected to affect any of Aerosmith’s scheduled concert dates. That’s a relief because the band is set to begin a 19-date American tour next week in Oakland, Calif.
