Saying the economy is going through a rough time is an understatement with all the financial problems we have going on. Even with Live Nation Entertainment, the biggest corporation in booking big acts at high prices, suffering tours and festivals are still trying to do what they can with the little resource we have called money. So now that the Virgin Mobile FreeFest has returned for 2010, fans should be beyond elated to know that they can catch headliners M.I.A., LCD Soundsystem and Pavement performing for the cost of $0. Believe it or not, the festival name is not a joke. You can see these acts and more perform for free again on September 25th. See more details after the jump!
According to the The Baltimore Sun (via Pitchfork), other acts in the lineup include T.I., Yeasayer, Ludacris, Matt and Kim, Sleigh Bells, Neon Indian, Die Antwoord, Chromeo, Modeselektor, Joan Jett, Thievery Corporation, Jimmy Eat World, The Temper Trap, and Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes.
Tickets are free and will go on sale this Saturday on July 24th at 10 AM EST via TicketFly.com but Virgin Mobile customers and previous Virgin Mobile Festival ticket holders from the past four years will be invited via text and email to a private “free-sale” before anyone else on Friday, July 23rd. There will be service charges but even then those who can pick tickets up at Merriweather or the 9:30 Club in Washington D.C. can have them waived. According to Consequence of Sound, you can rid yourself of fees if you print the tickets at home as well.
However, if you’re willing to give money you might as well get the premium tickets as the profits from those will benefit homeless youth charities. If you need push toward spending money on this FreeFest, maybe a few words from chairman of I.M.P. and Virgin Mobile FreeFest concert producer Seth Hurwitz will do it:
“Last year’s free festival was all about giving back to fans in the wake of a horrible economy,” explained Ron Faris, director of brand experiences, Virgin Mobile USA. “This year’s festival will focus even more on charitable giving. It’s a reminder to let people know that even as things are improving, there’s always someone out there less fortunate than you. Last year, we raised over $80,000 and generated 30,000 hours of volunteerism for youth homelessness. This year, together with the fans, we hope to do even better.”
Will you be attempting to get these tickets? They are free after all! Unless you want to help the kids out – which will definitely not be a bad choice at all.
