Lagy Gaga Fans Petition Her To Boycott Arizona Show This Weekend

Well, the pop culture battle that has emerged from the controversial sb 1070 immigration law in Arizona – essentially, it boils down whether or not artists should or should not boycott touring in the Copper State (which, in the long run, is sooo much more important than debating sb 1070’s merits, or lack thereof) – has finally expanded to include, sigh, Lady Gaga.
The L.A. Weekly reports that Gaga has become the target of an online petition asking the, louder sigh, singer to cancel her scheduled show at Arizona’s U.S. Airways Center this Saturday:
Lady Gaga,
Please be a lady FOR our community.
The state of Arizona is EXTRA right now. A wave of laws like sb 1070 is making it a crime to be brown and putting whole communities at risk.
Both migrant and LGBTQ communities know what it is to have to fight for our full human dignity to be affirmed. You have the opportunity to play a special role in that fight in Arizona.
Communities have called for a boycott of the state to make it happen. As an icon and beloved artist, please join us in boycotting
Arizona and turn your trip into an opportunity to meet your little monsters in the Migrant LGBTQ.munity so that you can speak out against the hateful laws and be a champion for this human rights cause.
And, seeing as how the legislators behind sb 1070 are probably huge Lady Gaga fans, I’m sure this latest attempt at throwing a wrench into the works of the machine will have shockwaves that reverberate just as loudly as when Hall and Oates announced they wouldn’t be going back to AZ.

NOOO!!! Im not trying to get her to cancel her show. I want her to meet the community and spread the message at her concert. My message is being distorted and/or getting mixed up with the Lady GaGa Join The Arizona Boycott! Facebook page.

Actually, the letters and petitions do not ask her to cancel her concert. They ask her to take the opportunity of being in Arizona to meet with the LGBTQ migrant communities. There is also a sign-on letter from LGBT organizations.

Dear Lady Gaga,
We’re writing to ask you to join us in our support for the people of Arizona and take a bold step to help end the human rights crisis in the state. The same Governor that stripped away the health benefits for same-sex partners recently passed SB 1070, a bill that takes the state down a path that will lead to racial profiling, discrimination and anti-immigrant extremism.
Our organizations are inspired by the boycott of the state called for by communities in Arizona as a powerful tactic to stop the growing hate and we ask that you meet with those communities and speak out against the hate that brews in Arizona.
We’ve been encouraged to see that artists and musicians around the country have organized themselves, as we have, to do what they can to demonstrate their opposition to the dehumanization and criminalization of the people of Arizona.
The efforts against SB 1070 and the broader immigration enforcement is a struggle to be recognized as fully human. Migrant and LGBTQ communities know all too well the experience of having our dignity denied us. We believe we have the right to be who we are regardless of who we love or what country we’re from.
As an icon who is emulated by your little monsters everywhere, we believe you have a special opportunity and responsibility to speak out against all intolerance. We were proud to march with you for equality in Washington and we hope you will participate in the movement for equality in Arizona as well.
Arizona is excited that they have the opportunity to see you perform. But there is also widespread disappointment to see you break a boycott, especially two days after a law that empowers police to investigate anyone they deem to be “reasonably suspicious” is scheduled to go into effect.
Please, while you’re in Phoenix, meet with those living under Sheriff Arpaio’s intimidation, those children who’s parents have been taken away, those little monsters who face the potential of being taken away under sb 1070 if they were to attend your concert. Collect their stories and be a champion for their cause.

Interesting story. But Vikter, as a queer male, I'm really annoyed that your mixing the LGBTQ community (Gaga's most dedicated fanbase) into the plight of the migrant worker in order to make your case more appealing for the artist. It should come as no surprise that many in the LGBTQ community aren't as against sb 1070 as you'd like to believe. Don't manipulate the politics of one group in order to push the agenda of another.

It is a matter of equality. If a group of people who know what it means to have to fight for something won't help by standing beside another group in need, how ungrateful are we? People need to stand together. I don't give a damn what race or sexuality you are. When people are in need, stand by them. I am not ignorant of the differences between the LGBTQ and the immigration law sb1070, but common sense and compassion do not differ. These people do not deserve to be treated as animals or of less respect than any other individual in this country. It is the fault of our government that our state is in this situation to begin with; that we as people are asked to judge our fellow people. A different solution to the problem is necessary, but sb 1070 is not the answer.
If it takes a second group of minority to help change the current status of our corrupt government, so be it. Let us win. Let us fail, but don't let us stand by without action.

Don't parrot what you hear from the idiots of the world, read the damn thing for yourself. The law ENFORCES the requirement of being in the US LEGALLY! Further, it does not authorize or condone random stops of people based on skin color. Liberals are always so reactionary and dramatic.

Not only is this a CONSTITIONAL AMENDMENT, voted on by the citizens of Arizona (you can't get anymore constitutional than that), but it also mirrors EXACTLY the same Federal Law that The All Shining & Glorious Leader, Chairman MAObama refuses to enforce, thus proving his abject hatred for America, Americans (unless, of course, they're Muslim, as is evidenced by the abhorant placement of a Mosque near Ground Zero) and the very constitution he swore upon the Quoran to uphold.
