Neil Young fans, rejoice – the cantankerous and unpredictable singer/ guitarist/ rock ‘n roll badass has just announced the release of four previously unheard records as part of his Archives 2 series.  The four records, unreleased since their recording in the 1970s, will act as the follow-up to Young’s monolithic (and excellent) 10-disc Archives 1 Blu-ray boxset.

According to Spinner, the albums will be vinyl only, as “they were originally created for that format.”  The four LPs will consist of three studio albums and one live record:

’Homegrown’, ‘Oceanside-Countryside’ and ‘Chrome Dreams’, plus ‘Odeon-Budokan Live‘ — a concert album recorded with Crazy Horse in England and Japan in 1976 — will initially be issued on vinyl from analog masters…  ’Homegrown,’ which Young once called “the darker side of ‘Harvest‘” because of its personal nature, was supplanted by 1975′s ‘Tonight’s the Night.’ Likewise, ‘Chrome Dreams‘ was dropped in 1977 for ‘American Stars ‘n Bars.’”

Apparently, Young plans on releasing five volumes of the Archives series, which, if he follows through on that plan, will probably succeed in making most fans’ heads explode by 2015.

What do you think of Young’s massive Archives series?
