Picture 16 Bon Jovi And Nickelback Defy Laws Of Both Reality And Humanity To Join Top Concert Earners Of 2010

Well, AP has compiled its weekly update of the top-grossing concert tours of 2010, and as we slide into the second half of the year, perhaps it’s time to take stock of where we are as a concert-going public and culture.  As always, there are a few old faithfuls that unsurprisingly pepper the list – constantly touring acts such as Neil Young (ranked #12 with an earning of $357,036 thus far), along with coldly opportunist baby boomer nostalgia-reapers like the Eagles (who perch at a staggering #2 with $2,001,264) and the James Taylor / Carole King double feature (sharing the #3 spot with $1,368,495).  Further, a few expected new kids like Conan O’Brien (#15 with $276,692) also pop up here and there to liven things up a bit.  Those aside, the list did offer a few surprises (and, of course, Bieber), especially at the #1 spot.

Look, I like “Bad Medicine” as much as the next appreciator of crappy, big-haired dumb-pop (excuse me a moment while I duck from the comments wall), but… Bon Jovi at #1?  Really?  In the midst of an economic crisis, we’ve plunked down $3,675,524 to see Bon Jovi?  What, were the lines at Inception just too long?  Huddle up, here, America—we can do better than this, can’t we?

And, as if that weren’t shocking (and kind of disturbing) enough, another band of terrible hair enthusiasts has somehow slithered into the top 10, taking the #6 spot with $824,514, was – sighNickelback.  I don’t even have a joke for this one.  I mean, Nickelback?  We’re still doing this?  I don’t… there are no words.

Oh, and because God is dead, Bieber at #9 with $497,488.

What rock are you living under? Bon Jovi are always in the top earning acts when they tour. Just a couple of years ago they were the top act of the year and they're poised to claim the top spot again this year. The public knows what's good. You're the one out of touch.

Clearly you have no idea what Bon Jovi is really about. Listen to the albums "These Days" or "Keep the Faith" if you have a problem with the music they wrote when they were 20 year old kids.

There's a reason people will spend their hard-earned money on Bon Jovi tickets but choose to skip most other concerts.

One of the best nights of my life was in march when i spent the evening in the midst of 20,000 screaming bon jovi fans. I am the empitomy of the bon jovi fan….46 year old woman who does think of jon bon jovi when making love to my husband. Spent my hard earned money for that front row seat and was rewarded by being 6 inches away from him when he sang to me and held my hand. MY MONEY….MY DREAM. !

Just goes to show that again the so called CRITICS don't have a clue what is great music is! Bon Jovi and Nickelback are up there because they are good at what they do and are not the sort of artists that just come and go, for them it's a job or career. Also the live performance they give always leaves the crowd wanting more they entertain and very good at doing it.

Maybe if you went to see these shows you write about, you would understand. Nickelback and Bon Jovi both put on a spectacular show, the audience knows every song, and they actually play the music live and don't rely on half-naked backup dancers.

DITTO!!!!!!!! And why do you think anyone cares what you think ANYWAY!???? I agree with all the comments above! Bon Jovi has stood the test of time with great music and a great show! Wait, who do you like, Brittany Spears??? You're an idiot and you don't know what you're talking about! Go back under your rock!

That's some impressive grammar. Indicative of the kind of person that would listen to such crap music.

The public knows what's good? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! The "public" as you call them, are the ones that perpetuate the worst in consumerism (music, film, food etc.) and worst of all, politicians. Let me guess, Susie, you're a Republican right?

Just give us the list and keep your "crappy….dumb" (your words!) comments to yourself.

Keep the Faith and These Days were masterpieces by Bon Jovi, which sadly not all people know. Their new hits are bland and stupid but their older music lives. I hope that you guys who dislike songs like "It's My Life" or "We Weren't Born to Follow" check out Keep the Faith-album. That one has actually amazing songs like "Dry County", "Save a Prayer", "Keep the Faith" and "Fear".
