Paul McCartney Turned Away At The White House Before Performance
By Seraphina L.
Sir Paul McCartney has consistently been in the news for a while thanks to the Gershwin Prize he’s received. Prior to the award ceremony being aired on PBS a couple of days ago, we some sneak peeks including the massive sing-a-long to “Hey Jude” and The White Stripes/Raconteurs/Dead Weather band member, Jack White’s cover of Beatles song, “Mother Nature’s Son.”
Well guess, what? He may be a knight but he wasn’t royal enough for the security guards at the White House. In fact, McCartney and his crew were basically turned away when they tried to entire the vicinity for the actual performance!
It’s a little ironic since President Barack Obama was the one who wanted to honor McCartney but it’s true. According to ContactMusic.com, McCartney shared the following details with the Associated Press:
“Getting through the security of the White House (was memorable). For the rehearsal, we got through fine. But for the actual gig, we were sort of not let in [...] At the gate we said, ‘We’re the entertainment.’ He (the security guard) said, ‘No, you’ll have to walk around the other block.’ It was heavy traffic, so we’re going, ‘Oh geesh. Wouldn’t you just know it’.”
Bless the security guards for doing their job, but Macca and his people were a little worried they’d be late for the actual event. For a security guard, it was just another entrance but for McCartney and his fans, it would have been a travesty if the rest of the night didn’t go smoothly either.
Are you glad McCartney made it on time?
