One of the furthest and oddly placed stages at Lollapalooza is the Sony Bloggie stage. If you weren’t aware that the stage was actually a bit beyond the festival entrance, you may have never found it. Luckily for me, I just followed the funky sounds of Jamie Lidell and I was at the stage faster than you could snap your fingers. What I mean by that is that Lidell was one artist not to miss if you are a fan of elctronica, funk, and soul.

Lidell started out with a much rougher sound of avant-garde electronic music in his earlier years as a musician. However, he eventually slid into soul as his voice fits into the genre perfectly. He’s got a nice falsetto, a raspy color to it and he’s definitely got the moves down. When his beats are jagged his body displays the movement of the music and when it’s smooth you see his body dip into a slow groove.

He’s also a very sincere performer as he likes to include heartfelt anecdotes for the back stories to his songs. Although he’s currently a Manhattan resident, he’s still also got that English accent to add on to his charm. He mixed it up a bit this during his set this evening with new songs such as “Telephone” but also brought it back to the days of his second album with songs such as “A Little Bit More” where it’s just the beats from his own mouth, his mic and a looping machine.

One thing the Sony Bloggie stage had going for its odd placement (besides Lidell) was that it was also another shady area like the BMI stage – only it was much bigger. The larger area was a great thing because people were definitely feeling his tunes and grooving right along with him.

Check out all artists we’ve been digging at Lollapalooza this year!
