Weezer Debut New Album Cover For Hurley
By Jeffrey Hyatt
There’s something about that new album cover art for the upcoming Weezer album Hurley. Oh right, it’s a close-up photo of actor Jorge Garcia, who played Hugo ‘Hurley’ Reyes in the recently wrapped-up TV series Lost.
Random? Yes. Awesome? You bet. A new high point in album cover art.

Said Rivers Cuomo of the decision to use a photo of Garcia for the new album:
“I just loved this photo of Jorge Garcia, it just had this amazing vibe.
“We didn’t want to do a fourth self-titled record and we knew people would refer to it as ‘the ‘Hurley’ record’ even if left it without that title, so we just called it ‘Hurley’. No words are on the cover because all we wanted was his amazing face.”
Hurley, which arrives in stores Sept. 14 from Epitaph Records and is the follow-up to Raditude, will include a collaboration with Ryan Adams and a song called ‘Time Flies’, which was written by Mac Davis.
Sadly, the album cover for Hurley, Weezer’s 8th, is not part of some elaborate concept album inspired by the show Lost. Nevertheless, killer idea for an album cover and nice nod to a good actor who played a most memorable character on TV.
And it is a pretty damn good photo.
“We struggled super hard trying to come up with an album title,” Cuomo told SpinnerMusic.co.uk. “[We tried] to find some kind of phrase that summed up the whole aesthetic behind the album: ‘Heavy Mental’, ‘Smaller Than Life’.”
Cuomo added that he was coming up with various ideas, but ultimately, “went with some random word that doesn’t really have anything to do with anything.”
Weezer will appear at this year’s Reading and Leeds festivals later this month.
