U2′s Long-Delayed Spider-Man Broadway Musical Set For Christmas Release
By Travis Woods
Gigwise reports today that the long (and mercifully) delayed, U2-penned Spider-Man musical, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark will open on Broadway this Christmas, with a preview performance on November 14th at the Foxwoods Theatre prior to the official opening on December 21st.
The play, which is set to star Reeve Carney as Peter Parker/ Spider-Man and Jennifer Damiano as Mary Jane Watson, has long been beset by production delays, financial issues and casting difficulties, which is odd, since you’d think that a Broadway play which mashes and jams the comic book story of a teenage boy bitten by a radioactive spider with new songs by U2 (translation: not very good rehashes of early U2 songs) coming on the heels of the worst Spider-Man film ever would be nothing but Broadway gold. Right?
Even further, a year ago (that’s how long this thing has been gestating), Bono and the Edge hinted at a possible U2 Spider-Man album, which, honestly, can’t be any worse than the last two non-superhero tie-in U2 records. At the very least, it will be a nice little item for all of the hipster kitsch collectors to nab twenty to thirty years from now.
What do you think of the upcoming Spider-Man musical?
