As we previously mentioned in our introductory article to Outside Lands Festival, getting a chance to see Cat Power aka Chan Marshall perform again was pretty exciting. Although she did play Coachella in 2009, we haven’t heard much from the sultry-voiced singer-songwriter since then.

There were many things about Cat Power’s set that took on a very different vibe from her performances that took place years ago. The most notable change was her confidence – which she seemed to have a lot more of this time around.

Sounding sensual as ever, Marshall did not stay still on stage. Instead of sitting at the keyboard like I expected her to, she was constantly moving about with her mic in hand. Considering the fact that most of her songs are down-tempo and laid on a blues foundation, the movement on stage helped keep her set more interesting.

At one point, she jumped down from the stage and sang to the audience from the photo pit. It was obvious that her stage fright had dissipated. Marshall seemed to take charge of her own performances in a much more comfortable attitude now.

As she sang her all her well-known tunes, Cat Power fans took the time to indulge in her smoky voice and rich melodies while they got ready to settle into the night.

Check out all artists we’ve been digging at Outside Lands Festival this year!
