David Bowie Shoots Down Lady Gaga Collaboration Rumor

Hold up on that David Bowie-Lady Gaga collaboration. Bowie has put out the fire that was last week’s rumor that he and Lady Gaga had teamed up to work on a song together on her upcoming album.

The Thin White Duke cleared up the hot rumor with a statement posted on his official website. Hopefully you were waiting for just this sort of explanation before trashing your copy of Ziggy Stardust.

“When this tall story first surfaced a few days ago it was denied as a hoax in an update to the same article, and we thought that would be the end of it. I guess some folk see what they want to see though.”

The whole Bowie-Gaga collaboration thing took off last week when a document on a Gaga Daily message board thread that supposedly featured a list of song titles planned for Gaga’s third album; Bowies was supposedly named as co-producer, guitarist and vocalist on a song called “Vinyl.”

“The rumor that David Bowie has been working with Lady Gaga seems to have taken off,” continued the statement on Bowie’s site.

“The hoax was started by some bright spark or other with the above forgery … However, in a nutshell, the suggestion that David Bowie is producing and participating in the production of Lady Gaga’s next album is untrue and a hoax.”

Gaga is on record (fall issue of i-D magazine) as saying her third studio album was, “my absolute greatest work I’ve ever done,” so it wouldn’t be hard to look upon those Bowie rumors as true; Lord knows Bowie can only help the final product. Gaga goes on to say, rather boldly, that she is on, “the quest to create the anthem for my generation for the next decade, so that’s what I’ve done.”

We’ll see about all that, but whatever happens with her third album it will not include Bowie; the teaming of a true, rock n’ roll icon and the pop star who wears a gun bra is not to be, which either saddens you, or makes you dance with joy. Still, it was a damn good rumor.
