chrissymurderbot Review of Chrissy Murderbots Sleazetone Party Trax No. 1

The short but sweet album of self-professed, well, party tracks and therefore so titled Sleazetone PartyTrax #1 from Chicago’s own Chrissy Murderbot definitely lives up to its name. Whether to be played while getting ready in the club, on the way to the club, or at the club itself – or heck, while on the way to work the next day – there’s something super chill in setting the mood. Also known as Christopher Shively, Chrissy Murderbot – DJ, producer, and innovator – is a young talent hailing from the rather un-assumed Kansas City (Kansas? Or Missouri?) and has been in the business since 2005. Or at least this is what the hefty discography on his independent label, Sleazetone, suggests.

Chrissy Murderbot has a way of garnering appreciation for the art of the remix. First off, knowing the tracks are released independently and therefore organically gives listeners a foundation of going about things with a genre that seems anything but. Secondly, each track has its own flavor, as influenced and inspired by such artists as Donna Summer and Sinnamon. But it’s the remix of The B-52s “Love Shack” (“Luv Shaq”) that not only pays respect to the original but makes it even more the party starter for the modern generation.

We’re getting to that point where younger people are just discovering nineties music, and for even us twenty-somethings that’s a bit frightening. The B-52s are already immortalized in music history just by their being awesome, but this particular new take is electric and breathes new life into an already great track.

The only thing we’re thinking of at this point is if the #1 portion of the title actually indicates that a #2 will soon be on the horizon. We can only dream.
