The Smashing Pumpkins: Sunset Strip Music Festival Review

Smashing Pumpkins CP 8 28 2010c The Smashing Pumpkins: Sunset Strip Music Festival Review

Closing out the 2010 version of the Sunset Strip Music Festival was none other than the Chicago group known as The Smashing Pumpkins. With all the hair and dirty rock that came out of the 80s and 90s strip, the Pumpkins was the perfect way to end this 3 day fest. Just like the faces of the strip changing, all the faces of the band (sans the bald headed front man) have been changed with younger, fresher players looking for their time in the lime light. Would the new members be able to replicate the sound many had fallen in love with some twenty years ago? Simply put, yes.

CMJ Music Marathon 2010 Announces Initial Lineup CMJ Music Marathon 2010 Announces Initial Lineup

It’s almost that time of year again. CMJ is just around the corner to swallow New York City whole and spit out the greatest up and coming bands to date. Austin may have SXSW in Spring but CMJ dominates every nook and cranny in NYC during the fall when the festival hits the Big Apple on October 19. It can get a bit chaotic with bands who bring their vans and find out there’s no where to park,  but that’s all part of the fun when bands and music fiends all gather together and run around to experience some new sounds.

Not only do we know that it will run from October 19 to October 23 but we also already know who they’ve invited to showcase their talents so far. The initial lineup is just after the jump! See if any of your favorite indie bands made the CMJ cut.

Indie Film ‘Wah Do Dem’ Features An Equally Indie Soundtrack

Wah Do Dem1 SP082510 Indie Film Wah Do Dem Features An Equally Indie Soundtrack

Wah Do Dem, the independent feature film directed by Sam Fleischner and Ben Chace, has been on a successful streak since winning the Best Feature Film award at last year’s Los Angeles Film Festival. The film, starring musician Sean Bones and (briefly) Norah Jones, has made the rounds at various festivals and collected high praise and awards internationally.

The film is about when Max (Bones) gets dumped by his girlfriend (Jones) right before a Caribbean cruise he won and he decides to embark on a solo vacation to Jamaica (a bit cliched but lets roll with it for now). Once there, a series of mishaps and surprises send Max on the journey of a lifetime (yeap – by the book), as he ventures down the road of self-discovery and cultural differences (Who saw that one coming?! Sigh). Though at times the film seems to fall into typical plot twists, it is entertainingly pleasant as you find yourself falling in love with the characters he meets along the way (well there’s always that).

So why is this movie worth seeing?

Apparently John Lennon’s Toilet Is Worth $15,500

John Lennons 70th Birthday To Be Marked By Two Month Festival Apparently John Lennons Toilet Is Worth $15,500

As we noted last week, John Lennon fandom and Beatlemania continues to the point that even the oddest Fab Four trinket can be sold for a hefty profit if you find the right (or delusional) buyer.  Which is why it kind of makes sense that a Lennon fan would be willing to drop $15,500 for a 40-something-year-old toilet once owned – and used, of course – by John Lennon himself.  Yup.  A toilet.

There were two main stages where acts such as Slash and Smashing Pumpkins played on the west end and Common, Kid Cudi played on the east end. However, the smaller venues such as Cat Club, Key Club also openedup their doors for more acts to play well into the night past 1 AM.

Of course, we were there all day to grab as many moments in photos for you. So take a look at our photo gallery below and experience Sunset Strip Music Festival 2010 like you were there – or just to relive it again!
