Apparently John Lennon’s Toilet Is Worth $15,500
By Travis Woods
As we noted last week, John Lennon fandom and Beatlemania continues to the point that even the oddest Fab Four trinket can be sold for a hefty profit if you find the right (or delusional) buyer. Which is why it kind of makes sense that a Lennon fan would be willing to drop $15,500 for a 40-something-year-old toilet once owned – and used, of course – by John Lennon himself. Yup. A toilet.
According to Spinner:
“According to Jam! Showbiz, the commode had once been a part of Lennon’s Tittenhurst Park estate in Berkshire, England, which he bought in 1969. In 1972, the unique toilet, which had blue flowers painted on it, was given to a contractor by the musician during a renovation. Lennon purportedly told the contractor to ‘put some flowers in it’…
“Lennon’s porcelain hopper was among 303 lots auctioned off over the weekend at the 33rd annual Beatle Week Festival in Liverpool.”
I… I really don’t know what to say about that, beyond the fact that if anyone knows how to age and distress porcelain, I’m going to be at my local Home Depot today, making a purchase in the toilet section. Slap some rust on it, make a few cracks, and I’m putting that baby on Ebay as Ozzy Osbourne’s Blizzard of Ozz-era bathroom throne. 50/50 split?
What do you think of the $15,500 toilet purchase?
