Lady Gaga, Iggy Pop, Sonic Youth And More To Join Yoko Ono For John Lennon Tribute Concert In L.A.
By Travis Woods
Because a fan paying $15,000 dollars for his 40-year-old toilet isn’t enough, Yoko Ono is throwing a two-day, all-star bash for her late husband, John Lennon, this October in Los Angeles. Set to be held at the Orpheum Theatre on October 1-2, the We Are Plastic Ono Band concerts will feature the pant-suited and blank-eyed stare of Ono’s caterwauling performing Plastic Ono Band tunes backed by a band featuring her son Sean Lennon, as well as numerous high-profile guest performances.
According to Spin, October 1st will feature performances by Iggy Pop, Nels Cline and Mike Watt. October 2nd will host sets by Lady Gaga, along with Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth. And finally, both nights will feature “RZA, Perry Farrell, Carrie “Princess Leia” Fisher, actor Vincent Gallo, Paul Simon’s son Harper, and more.”
“Hand-picked artists will join the band onstage, much like the We Are Plastic Ono Band show in Brooklyn this past February, where guest stars included Eric Clapton, Paul Simon, and Scissor Sisters…
“Fans can expect something similar to the Brooklyn show, where the band played selections from Plastic Ono Band’s catalogue, including an all-star jam finale of 1969′s “Give Peace a Chance.” The set also featured newer material culled from Ono’s surprising 2009 album, Between My Head and the Sky.
“Tickets are already onsale for the event via Ticketmaster.”
Wait a minute, wait a minute… I just reread this over again… Gaga and Yoko Ono performing on the same night? My God… this is the end, isn’t it? ISN’T IT? I feel like Charlton Heston at the end of Planet of the Apes when he finds the Statue of Liberty jutting out of a beach: “YOU MANIACS! YOU BLEW IT UP! OH, DAMN YOU! GODDAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!”
What do you think of the tribute concert lineup?
