underworld Best New Music Video of the Week: Underworld

It’s that time again. It’s time for us to pick our favorite music video of the week! A lot of good material was released over the past few days but we had to narrow it down to one. We based our decision on creativity, music, and most importantly why you won’t see it on MTV…but should!

And the pick of this Labor Day week is…

Underworld: Always Loved a Film

This week’s pick was chosen because of the following…

  • Going out on a creative ledge: 8/10
  • Something you won’t see on MTV, but should: 10/10
  • Song worth making a video for: 9/10

Rick Smith and Karl Hyde are Underworld.  You know them, you just don’t know you do. For the last thirty years Smith and Hyde have worked with artists like Iggy Pop and have had their music featured in a number of Danny Boyle’s films, including the hit single “Born Slippy (Nuxx)” from cult classic ’96 masterpiece, Trainspotting.

Underground’s new album (their first in three years), Barking, features their latest single “Always Loved a Film” from label Cooking Vinyl. The music video follows four old men as they skate, drink, steal and well, basically pillage the streets of an unnamed East coast town. The reckless abandonment demonstrated in this video only gives me hope for the future. It’s not all wheelchairs and patient gowns if you don’t want it to be.

Watch it now…

What do you think of this week’s pick?
