FYF Fest 2010: AA Bondy

Thee Oh Sees CP 9 4 2010a FYF Fest 2010: AA Bondy

I could have gone to see Best Coast but as I was getting ready to embed myself into the heavier acts, I thought a set from AA Bondy was in order for the perfect mood setting. This was definitely one artist I was incredibly happy to see FYF Fest put on the main Redwood stage because when AA Bondy opens his mouth to sing, he moves your soul.

As I watched this particularly tall handsome man in sunglasses rock out on his guitar and sing soothing tales, it was rather hard for me to think of any AA Bondy performance that has been considered below par. It’s mostly likely impossible for that to happen, actually. There is a sincere touch he puts on his music and it’s not just because it’s folk music – that would be too generic of a thing to say. It’s his strength in pulling you back to tunes that are great delicate southern waltzes yet bold enough to remind you that music this emotionally detailed does, in fact, exist in the present.

This set at FYF Fest was no different. Even on a larger stage than we’re used to seeing him play, his songs rang out to the very bottom of our hearts (and perhaps to the soles of our aching feet as well) like a magnetic force pulling in those who are in need of a music revival. The harmonica doesn’t hurt either. It’s too easy to call AA Bondy the Bob Dylan of today but as big of a statement as that is, would it really be a surprise to hear a younger generation say an AA Bondy song changed their life as well?
