FYF Fest 2010: !!! (Chk Chk Chk)
By Seraphina L.
With the heavier acts done for the evening, it was time for FYF attendees to literally dance the night away and !!! (Chk Chk Chk) was the first band to really rev it up for us. Known for their dance punk music, the Sacramento-based group really was the perfect genre to set the mood for the night. Although School of Seven Bells were over at the Sequoia stage starting their dark, moody electronica beats, !!! was taking care of us at the main Redwood stage with their bright funk and disco-infused dance punk music.
I do love the grooves in !!!’s music, but my favorite part about their performances is watching lead vocalist, Nic Offer. I’ve only seen him in the summertime, but his little boy shorts always seem to add a slight endearing, comedic effect to all his dancing. The boy knows how to get down and he isn’t afraid if any of the photographers get a “crotch” shot because he’s all about pumping the crowd up. He does all this while still sounding decent on the mic as well.
The entire collective works really well together on stage. There is a dynamic that both rock and electronica fans can both enjoy and I’m pretty all the moving bodies around me agreed.
