FYF Fest 2010: Titus Andronicus
By Seraphina L.
FYF Fest was experiencing a little New Jersey take-over with band such as Screaming Females, Ted Leo and, of course, indie rock favorites, Titus Andronicus. I have to admit that this was one of the sets I was looking forward to the most all day and as expected, I was not disappointed in the least bit. Screaming Females may have brought us some decent punk rock earlier in the day but Patrick Stickles and company were about to throw down with their own lo-fi punk. Moshing, dust, shouting, were all in the cards.
Although Titus Andronicus may be referred to as a lo-fi garage band, there is nothing cheap about their sound. Everything about their Jersey energized rock anthems, complete with aggressive lyrics and slick guitar riffs. all roll into a sound that is just BIG. The sound is a bit more polished on their latest album, The Monitor, but even with that slight clean-up, the ambition that drips off every note is like a new cleansing of the ears with every song.
Most of the lyrics in their new songs are downright depressing as they are in your face but there is something that happens within you as a concert-goer when you’ve joined in on the chanting of “You will always be a loser.”
