Director Of The Spider-Man Musical On U2′s Soundtrack: It Doesn’t Sound Like U2 (Whew)
By Travis Woods
Julie Taymor, director of the upcoming Spider-man musical with music by U2, Spider-man: Turn Off the Dark (sweet, sweet Jesus), spoke about U2’s music for the show today on Good Morning America (because if there is one thing America is clamoring for, it’s a Broadway musical about a teenage boy bitten by a radioactive spider and who develops the ability to spray webbing all over New York, backed with music by modern day – a.k.a. not good – U2). Speaking about Bono and the Edge’s tunes for the show, Taymor did slip in a bit of good news: it doesn’t sound like U2.
According to Reuters, Taymor stated that the new songs don’t all feel like classic (or even – shudder – modern U2):
“Taymor says the pair were integral in creating the characters in the musical. She also says the songs don’t all have a U2 stamp but draw from a variety of musical genres.”
Spider-man: Turn Off the Dark, with new tunes by U2, will being preview shows on November 14th at the Foxwoods Theatre on Broadway, though the official opening night will be December 21st.
