Lily Allen has been a trendsetter throughout her career, beginning with her rise to fame on MySpace and then eventually Facebook. Allen publicly claimed to have no desire to make albums because of the impossibility of earning money from them. It’s a move that more and more artists appear to be gravitating towards, by seeking a nontraditional means of music distribution.

But don’t worry about Allen living the life of a starving artist, these days she could solely live off lawsuits like the one regarding an interview that quoted her slamming David and Victoria Beckham. It’s an interview, that in fact, never took place.

A judge awarded Allen an unspecified amount of money for legal and PR troubles that resulted from the soccer magazine, Foot, running a fake interview with the (former) pop singer. It’s the second time that Allen has earned money from these quotes, having already taken in 16K from The Sun, who only reprinted Foot‘s previous story.

The sporting magazine published quotes from Allen in which she called the Beckhams “sickening,” and Victoria Beckham, in particular, a “monster.” Allen’s lawyers stated that the singer’s “reputation had been vindicated” by the result of the case, a statement that ignores pretty much every other public comment the British singer has ever made.

Allen is currently pregnant with her first child and appears to be holding strong in her commitment to not making albums. Whether this pursuit of legal damages will become another one of the singer’s trends is yet to be seen.

Do you think Allen deserves to be paid for the damage to her reputation?
